The Pirelli response to a new generation of vehicles
The growing popularity and diffusion of the new generation 4-wheel drive vehicles, the so-called SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles), can be explained by the sense of freedom, protection, safety and reliability, appreciated by drivers and passengers alike, delivered by vehicles equipped with increasingly sophisticated systems and accessories.
The new tyre Scorpion STR (Stability Traction Rating) was created in this context. It was designed to maximize the performance of these modern multifunction multipurpose vehicles, while ensuring higher levels of safety, reliability, and comfort at the same time.
The Scorpion STR is a member of the Scorpion family, a new generation of tyres designed to respond proactively to the requirements of the high level vehicle sector. One of the factors in its success is the MIRS, an entirely automatic process for manufacturing new generation Pirelli tyres.

Yesterday the 'off-road' vehicles were specialized for driving on rough and unsurfaced roads, which required vehicles designed and equipped specifically for off-road use. A phase of intermediate evolution then began as four-wheel drive vehicles were produced to be orientated more towards multifunctional off-road vehicles. The result, a more flexible vehicle suitable for driving on roads as well: providing higher standards of comfort, but still retaining the original characteristics of a pure off-road vehicle.

Today the SUVs have been created as comfortable and convenient 4-wheel drive vehicles with a pleasant design suitable for all types of road. The typical SUV can be enhanced by increasing its ability to perform in off-road settings as well as by enabling the driver to personalize the vehicle with additional high performance off-road equipment.
